Muhoozi dies at police station, officers in charge arrested

It seems the habbit of torturing inmates and suspects in police and prison cells in Uganda keeps on growing daily. The news that has come in our media house reveals that senior police officers in Uganda reportedly tortured a suspect to death in western Uganda.

The Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, as a result, directed the three police officers who were in charge to be arrested and be charged with murder.

The sources in police identified the deceased as Bernard Muhoozi. He was arrested by the police on Tuesday for assaulting his friend and was found dead the next day after failing to pay 300,000 shillings.

The suspects who were in the same cell where Muhoozi died say the police demanded him to pay to them 300,000 shillings and he only managed to pay 150,000 shillings.

The suspects allege that Muhoozi died due to severe torture he went through the whole night at the hands of the police. By press time, Muhoozi’s body was still lying at the police station.
