The prevalence rate of diabetes is increasing in Uganda. One of the factors responsible for this is fast uncontrolled urbanisation and changes in standards of living.
According to a 2010 report by the World Health Organisation (W.H.O), the increase presents a substantial public health and socio-economic burden in the face of scarce resources.
The WHO report indicates that about 15% of all people living with diabetes develop foot problems related to the disease and if not treated in time, one in six patients with diabetic foot ulcer require amputation.
