Pan african parliament third session opens monday 21st

The Third Ordinary Session of the Third Pan African Parliament is set to open with an address by H.E Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe,President of Togo  at the Gallagher Centre in Midrand South Affrica on Monday, October 21, 2013.

Uganda’s delegation to the continental body including Hon. Cecilia Ogwal (FDC, Dokolo district), Hon. Onyango Kakoba (NRM, Buikwe North), Hon. Barumba Rusaniya (NRM, Kiruhura district), Hon. Amooti Otada (Ind., Kibanda) and Hon. Jacqueline Amongin (NRM, Ngora district) travelled to Midrand, South Africa early this week to attend the Session.

In this Session, which will run for two weeks, legislators will also debate the African Union Agenda 2063, which “outlines an approach to how the continent should effectively learn from the lessons of the past, build on the progress now underway and strategically exploit all possible opportunities available in the immediate and medium term, so as to ensure positive socioeconomic transformation within the next 50 years.”

PAP will also debate the African Union Budget, which will be presented by  Mr. Erastus Mwencha, the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission.

The Pan-African Parliament was established in March 2004, under the Constitutive Act of the African Union. It is one of the nine organs of the African Union.

 

PAP was set up to “provide a common platform for African peoples and their grass-roots organizations to be more involved in discussions and decision-making on the problems and challenges facing the continent.”

 

The Leader of Uganda’s delegation, Hon. Cecilia Ogwal is drafting a Motion to honor the immediate past President of the Pan African Parliament, Dr. Idriss Ndele Moussa, who died in a motor accident in May 2013.
