Museveni’s family evicts 3,000 people in Sembabule

 

There is a dispute over 4.5 square miles of land in Sembabule district reportedly bought by one of the members of the president’s family. The land in dispute was bought by president Museveni’s sister-in-law.

However, one of the Press Secretaries to president Museveni says that the land in dispute was bought by an in law of Museveni’s young brother, Gen. Salim Saleh. Gen. Saleh’s in law wants to evict over 3,000 families in NtuusiSub-county, Sembabule District. The residents of Ntuusi begged the Speaker of Parliament to intervene into their problems. The land in dispute comprises the villages of Kabeho, Kinoni, Boma A and Boma B.

Our reporters have managed to identify Gen. Saleh’s in law as Karen Kayonga. Ms Karen wants the residents to leave the land without compensation to allow her to rare cattle. The land in dispute accommodates houses, schools, and plantations.

The residents of Ntuusi allege that Ms Karen uses the army and police to intimidate them. The Sembabule District Police Commander Robert Walugembe confirmed that he deployed police at the disputed land. Ms Karen claims that she got ownership of the land in 2007 from Uganda Investment Authority.
