Third African parliament opens in South Africa

 

The Third Ordinary Session of the Third Pan African Parliament opened on Monday with an address by Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe, the President of Togo  at the Gallagher Centre in Midland South Africa.

Uganda’s delegation to the Third Pan African Parliament includes Cecilia Ogwal (FDC, woman Dokolo district), Onyango Kakoba (NRM, Buikwe North), Barumba Rusaniya (NRM, Kiruhura district), Amooti Otada (Independent Kibanda) and Jacqueline Amongin (NRM, Ngora district).

The Third Pan African Parliament Session will run for two weeks. The legislators will debate the African Union Agenda 2063. The agenda outlines an approach to African problems. It will also debate the African Union Budget, which will be presented by  Erastus Mwencha, the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission. The African parliament was established in 2004, under the Constitutive Act of the African Union to provide a common platform for African peoples and their grass-roots.
