Government has directed all relevant authorities to renew efforts to promote, use of Swahili Language to make it an alternative National language in Uganda.
In the renewed effort teachers are to be trained in Swahili to also teach children in Swahili.
This move is aimed at easing Uganda’s engagements with other partner states under theEast African Community but also help Ugandan traders who are currently challenged by the language barrier between them and their consumers from Kenya, Tanzania among other EAC states.
This according to state minister for Karamoja Barbara Oundo Nekesa who has been speaking to the press in Kampala to update the public on the latest cabinet approvals.
For long the government has expressed determination to interest the locals to use Swahlili as a national language but due to the terrible stereo type emanating from the brutal and fierce Amin’s regime army that butchered people the adoption of Swahili remains a challenge.
