The Independence that Uganda is celebrating annually is being allowed for Uganda to have a Ugandan president, have her own national Flag and a national anthem, Walakira Nyanzi writes.
But in reality Uganda is still a British colony. Uganda is still part of the Commonwealth, which is headed by the Queen of England. Any country in Commonwealth has to recognise the Queen of England as the supreme leader and the president is next.
Uganda depends on donations from Britain and it’s being strangled by heavy debts from Britain, Britain determines the prices of Uganda’s products to be sold in the United Kingdom and sets prices for its imports in Uganda.
Uganda’s education system is still on a British education foundation not an African foundation. Uganda is still following the British culture even English is the official language of Uganda- Making the policies and wishes of the Queen of England also official in Uganda.
Uganda’s national budget can not be approved before the World Bank approves it, Uganda’s economy is controlled by the British government, even the cultural lifestyle, so now how can we say that Uganda is independent? One of my friends, Lutalo Dawudi says that Uganda, well, we can all make it sound better by saying that “Uganda is an independent British colony!”
