FDC has never been a political party, says Major Rubaramira Ruranga

Former opposition activist turned ruling party’s (National Resistance Movement) blued eyed man; Major Rubaramira Ruranga says Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) of Col. Kizza Besigye has never been a political party.

Rubaramira, who untill last week was FDC’s Deputy Electoral Commission chairman, says that FDC is a rainbow coalition that was formed to fight the NRM politburo.

He says that it was (is) not easy to transform a fighting FDC group into a political party. The United Kingdom (UK) as an example, had always been led by two political parties the Nick Clegg’s Liberal Democrats and the colonial-oriented conservative party as the name itself suggests, then the workers and women felt were left out, remember Emily Pankhurst’s Suffragette movement which advocated for adult suffrage for all people because women were not allowed to vote at the time.

Therefore in 1906, the labour unions founded their own political party, the labour party as the name itself suggests, hence in view of the foregoing. The problem with FDC today is that it cannot stand if the “confrontational situation” with Dr Besigye as its commander changes. Similarly the politburo cannot compete with parties without the likes of Kakoza Mutale’s gun wielding Kalangala action plan and with Commander president Museveni on top.
