Subacute sinusitis: This type of sinusitis lasts from 4 to 12 weeks. This type of sinusitis represents a continuation of the natural progression of acute sinusitis that has not got better.
Its symptoms are the same as with acute sinusitis, but less severe. Its treatment may be different from other types of sinusitis.
There is chronic sinusitis: It lasts at least 12 weeks and keeps on rehappening. Chronic sinusitis is caused by an infection. But it can also be caused by nasal polyps (growths in the sinuses), as well as a deviated septum.
Like with acute and subacute sinusitis, the sinuses become inflamed and swollen, causing blockage and mucus build up. Doctors refer to this as chronic rhinosinusitis. The person living with it may find it hard to breathe through his or her nose.
