Of recent most supporters of Uganda government (NRM) you come across in Uganda will tell you how President Yoweri Museveni has tried! They will talk of market stalls opened, potholes filled up or footpaths equivalent of bi-passes bituminized. They will talk of universal primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) and then tell you about the story of Radio Uganda versus the many radio stations across the country.
In my school days as a pupil/student and later as a journalist respectively, the remark by someone that “he or she has tried” is not a cause for celebration. In simple “he or she has tried” is the same as failure.
I do not know under NRM leadership if “he has tried” is the best they can get from their most ardent supporters— then it’s their own admission of failure of their leader(s). I think we as Ugandans should borrow an example of Kenya and Tanzania’s infrastructure Development: In Tanzania the roads being constructed to bitumen standards are so many that if the President was to attend functions of opening roads he would not manage. In Kenya they have a Second Port to Build in Lamu, a Super highway to link them with Ethiopia, and they will tap electricity from the Ethiopia grid. In Uganda the President is opening up market stalls for tomato sellers, celebrating of the filling up of potholes, and revealing the monument for the November 3rd, 2013 Eclipse and we hear that “the man has tried.”
