In Uganda political rumours circulate like Bushfire. Today we hear that the government has killed Gen. David Sejusa’s brother, Dan Mutungi… the next day we shall hear another rumour. The problem the people circulating those rumours do not apologise to us in the end.
President Museveni is fond of always telling his political opponents to apologise to him and join him in the ruling National Resistance Movement. “Apology, apology, forgiveness, pardon …I will send you seven fit down …,” Museveni habitually threatens his political enemies. But is he God to demand for forgiveness! Has the president ever apologised for all the mistakes he has committed on Ugandans over the years?
Now we hear a strange move against Museveni is in the Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) pipeline. The opposition party wants its icon Sam Njuba to ask Museveni for an apology and forgiveness for reportedly eloping with his wife Getrude Njuba during the bush war period. Rumours among opposition politicians and on Kampala Street has it that the big man has a child with her.
In an FDC meeting last week, some of the FDC executive members asked Njuba to come out to ask Museveni to say sorry to him. The FDC members present in the meeting all agreed that Njuba should request for a public apology as one of the ways the party can cause a ‘political tsunami’ in State House. Ibrahim Kasozi, one of the FDC ace, suggested that Njuba should even go ahead to name the child Museveni purportedly got in Njuba’s wife. The proposal for Njuba to demand for an apology from Museveni was first initiated by FDC’s Adam Kifuddekwesiba Kabano
