The British high commissioner to Uganda Allison Burney and the head of department, Africa in east and west Africa foreign and commonwealth office, Mathews Harriet are calling on the Ugandan govt to make faster strides in improving the national infrastructure system if the country is to register fast cross border trade growth.
In a meeting with the trade and industry minister, Hon. Amelia Kyambadde where they two countries were discussing trade related issues between them, the delegation from the UK emphasized the need to see more power stability, better road and railway network to reduce on the challenges of transportation coupled with addressing the bureaucracy that exists before someone sets up business in Uganda.
However, the trade minister, Kyambadde mentions that the country is currently working on eliminating all these barriers to foster faster economic growth as well as creating more opportunities for foreign investors in Uganda as well as for Ugandan traders in the UK
Amelia Kyambadde also reveals that her ministry has set up new and tough guidelines for foreign investors to set up business in the country with the aim of weeding out petty investors.
Speaking to the minister on the issue concerning increased quack and petty foreign investors in the country, Hon. Kyambadde confirms that they have embarked on the process to screen them and have them comply with the laws of this land.
