It seems Ugandans are now feeling the late Amos Kaguta family tree that runs the government of Uganda which Journalist Andrew Mwenda used to refer to before he was panel beated and rehabilitated into the National Resistance Movement (NRM) fold. A family tree is where the relatives, in-laws, friends, extended family members and siblings of a certain person run a government.
A family tree was shown when another new entrant in politics, Stephen Kangwagye was fronted as the NRM flag bearer for Bukanga County in Western Uganda.
Kangwagye who won controversial NRM primaries to emerge the party’s flag bearer in the race has blood relations with president Museveni. The political observers in Uganda think that if Kangwagye happens to win the parliamentary race he will be tipped to get a ministerial post.
Kangwagye, according to people who know him well, is a son to the brother of the late Amos Kaguta. Amos Kaguta was the father to Uganda’s one and only visionary leader, Gen. Museveni.
The circumstances under which Kangwegye won NRM primaries was controversial because the first round of the primaries was won by former MP Nathan Byanyima. But Kangwagye camp detested the results calling for intervention of the NRM Vice chairman, Hajj Moses Kigongo to investigate the anomalies. Kigongo’s report, however, recomended for a repeat of the NRM primaries…which were supervised by NRM Electoral Commission chief, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda. Sections of people in Bukanga accused Rugunda of maintaining the interests of the family tree. The NRM polls were conducted on 8th November 2013. The four candidates that were in NRM primaries are now in the race as independents.
