How to avoid tooth decay

Advice for children aged 0-3years. Breastfeeding provides the best nutrition for babies. Introduce your child to a cup from 6 months. Aim to have your baby off the bottle by their first birthday.

Sugar should not be addded to weaning foods. As soon as the teeth come, brush using a soft brush twice daily…avoid giving the baby a bottle as a pacifier.

Advice for children aged 3 to 5 years

Tooth brushing should be supervised by an adult. Eat various fresh fruits and raw vegetables as snacks. Also encourage sem-skimmed milk or water between meals.

Visit the dentists every after six (6) months to check on the status of your teeth. The children aged between 7 years and above

Sugary foods and drinks, according to Dr. Aisha Lukwago of Clinic on Aids Research Namasuba, should be taken only at mealtimes. If your child should take medication ask your pharmacist for one that is sugar-free if its unavailable, ensure that your child brushes his teeth after every doze of medicine. Also ensure your child brushes his teeth for at least twice aday.
