The Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura received a letter of Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze notifying him about the A4C’s intention to hold a public meeting at Nakivubo Blue Primary School on November, 18, 2013.
The Inspector General of Police received Nambooze’s letter on the 16th November 2013, at 2:00pm according to Betty Nambooze.
However, section 5 of Public Order Management Act 2013, states that the Organizer of a public meeting shall give notice to the police in writing of the intention to hold a public meeting at least three days before the meeting.
It further provides under close 2 (b) of the same act that the organizers shall prove the consent of the owner of the venue where the proposed public meeting is intended to take place.
Further, under close 2 (d) the organizer is supposed to clearly state the purpose of the meeting and the expected number of people to attend. The Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba however says that all the above provisions were glossily under mined by MP Nambooze.
In view of the above legal requirements which MP Nambooze and the group have not fulfilled the Police informed the general public that the planned public meeting by Nambooze SHALL NOT take place as provided under section 6 of the Public Order Management Act 2013.
