Lord Mayor released after tourture

 

The Lord Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago has been released after spending 10 hours in a police cell. The Lord Mayor was arrested on Monday as he forced his way out of his home in Lubaga, a Kampala suburb, where police was keeping him in hostage.

Lukwago was transferred to Central Police Station and later on directives from some people above Uganda police force he was relocated to Kangulumira in Bugerere, Kayunga district. Sources in Uganda police told us that the Lord Mayor was released at night.

The police,
in a bid to block freedom of expression, threw a heavy security around the homes of known opposition supporters and at the same time reinforced its earlier deployments in Kampala.
