The lecturers at Makerere University are not happy with the colonial laws being practiced by Uganda government. They ask why is it that only a handful of professions are represented on Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

It is a bizarre. They say it seems affirmative action is turning nonsense. Gerald Walulya, one of the lecturers at Makerere University in the department of Mass Communication says representation to KCCA council should not be constructed from a professions perspective! He says all educated and learned people need a more inclusive approach – one that reflects the diverse nature of the people in Kampala.

Other Professors at Makerere University ask what doctors are going to do in a KCCA council of politicians where some of the councilors stopped in primary one?

The learned and educated professionals at Makerere University all come to a conclusion that the professionals in architecture, medicine, law and engineering should remain on their technical side.

As if this is not enough, some lecturers have asked why the representatives for professional bodies to KCCA picked all people from one region of the country, Western Uganda. The four positions on the KCCA council, which have been vacant for three years, were on Tuesday filled as required by KCCA Act to complete the composition of the Council. Venna Musinganisa Mbabazi emerged as winner to represent the Uganda Society of Architects, Dr Denson Nyabwana will represent the Uganda Medical Association, Eng Karuma Kagyina took the slot for Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers and Frank Kanduho was voted to represent Uganda Law Society. Well done Kampala Minister Frank Tumwebaze!
