Museveni speaks on his differences with Erias Lukwago

President Museveni’s press secretary Tamale Mirundi has narrated the origin of Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago’s problems with the government. First of all Lukwago was a good man, Mirundi says, but he was spoiled by former Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) president, Col. Kizza Besigye.

Mirundi says at first Lukwago did a good thing to drop the Democratic Party ticket and contested as an independent candidate during the Lord Mayoral elections. Lukwago, also according to statehouse’s mouth piece, did a good thing to put candidates on all DP candidates (councilors) something that helped NRM to get many councilors at KCCA.

However Mirundi says that when Lukwago became Lord Mayor, he became arrogant to councilors and the government in general. As if that was not enough, Besigye noticed Lukwago’s strength in Kampala and joined him to cause chaos in Kampala. Mirundi therefore explains that the government loves Lukwago but it is ‘beating’ him because Besigye is using him as a shield.
