Besigye in talks with Gen. Otafiire

In the Daily Monitor newspaper of 26th/November 2013, Constitution and justice minister Gen. Kahinda Otafiire while appearing on a radio talk show in Mbarara on Sunday lamented that the ruling party in Uganda is hijacked by Mafia groups who are killing democracy in a bid to get finances.

The statement by Otafiire has been welcomed by the opposition in Uganda. Col. Kizza Besigye, who doubles as the former president of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) says that Gen. Otefiire is now talking of reality and he should join opposition where truth and justice is practiced.

Otafiire’s predicament was on the way the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) behaved in a by- election in Bukanga, Isingiro district where the police and military police are reportedly rigging for NRM’s flag bearer Stephen Kangwagye.

Stephen, the NRM flag bearer managed to sneak into the back door and snatched the party’s flag from Nathan Byanyima who is the former MP who had at first won the NRM primaries but after Kangwagye’s camp complained a re-run was done which saw Kangwagye win with all the Government machinery.

Byanyima became a prey to their system’s machination. So Otafiire’s ponders are harboured in that background and in the same newspaper Byanyima’s supporters walked out on president Museveni during the rally at the weekend.
