Museveni insists Lukwago’s impeachment stands
President Museveni has insisted that the impeachment of Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago still stands. The development follows Thursday’s court interim injunction granting Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago permission to stay in Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)’s lord mayorship.
The president while meeting KCCA director Jeniffer Musisi, Attorney General Mr. Nyombi and Kampala Minister Frank Tumwebaze on Thursday said the interim injunction came late and it cannot stop a KCCA council meeting that impeached Lukwago on Monday.
The Lord Mayor’s seat at KCCA was declared vacant on Monday and the Electoral Commission was accordingly informed of the same on Tuesday. Nyombi also concurred with Museveni that the interim order doesn’t bring Lukwago back to office.
Museveni says although the court ruling must be respected, the same ruling by Justice Yasin Nyanzi is not practical.
KCCA councilors met in a special meeting on Monday this week voted on the fate of Erias Lukwago following findings from a tribunal report a week before.
The report had found Lukwago guilty of abuse of office, incompetence, misconduct and misbehavior.
