Look at the recent countries that have managed to break away from their mother countries around the world. They include Eritrea, South Sudan, Kosovo, Croatia and South Ossetia…But most of these new countries got independence through many years of bloodshed…. not to mention destroyed economic and social infrastructure.

Other communities that have attempted to break away from their mother countries like Biafra in Nigeria got only deep scars to show. Cabinda is still fighting to break away from Angola and the Tuareg region of northern Mali is fighting in attempt to break away. Its earlier efforts to breakaway were quashed by Mali government with the help of international forces.

In Uganda, the MPs from northern Uganda and central Uganda want to secede from Uganda. They cite corruption, injustice and nepotism in Museveni’s government as the reason for the breakaway. Buganda’s earlier attempt to breakaway from Uganda in 1966 was met by full force.
