Officials from Mbarara University of science and technology have
blamed state house for their failure to meet their budget.
Appearing before the public accounts committee of parliament the
officials said that the state house delays to pay for the students that it sponsors and this has affected the activities of the university.
According to the university Bursar Deogratius Ojambo the
financial year 2010/11 students of business administration failed to go for industrial training and instead the university preferred field work which was not fair.
The mps however blamed the university administration for not allowing the students to sit for exams when they have not paid fees retain their transcript.
The same committee also grilled Mbarara
university officials for failing to declare the unused funds to the
ministry of finance at the close of the financial.
This was after the committee members discovered that the university
had shs 420 million deposited on the university accounts in the
financial year 2010/2011 instead of being returning it to the ministry
of finance.
Mps including Paul Mwiru and Edie Kwizera said that its indiscipline for public servants not to return the unused funds to the
ministry of finance.
The university secretary Dr. Charles Kibirige however said that the
university thought permission from the ministry of finance to have the
money retained by the university.
Members now want Kibirige to produce the documents that authorized
such an act or his held accountable for hiding information to the
ministry of finance.
