Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has sent to Hague a video showing how police and men in plain clothes tortured his lawyers and beat up civilians on the day KCCA councils attempted to impeach him after being given 25 millions each reportedly by president Museveni to do the impeachment job.
The video also shows many people who witnessed the scenes outside Lord
Mayor Lukwago’s residence, the young man wearing a checkered shirt being
brutally handled by Uganda police.
The young man was taken to Old Kampala Police Station. His name is Mulongo Ssemwogerere.
In the video, people followed him next day at the police and found him in a critical condition. The video shows the young man was badly beaten up by police. Every one could see the bruising, he was in excruciating pain. Human rights asked that he be allowed medical attention, but peoples request were denied. The following day the young man’s condition had deteriorated, in fact he had lost feeling in his right arm. Again, peope alerted the police commanders to the pressing need for medical attention which
the Uganda Police force ignored.
However the opposition activists with the help of Senior Lawyers led by Ladilaus Rwakafuuzi obtained a court order for his immediate release from illegal police custody. But Ssemwogerere remained in illegal police detention.
