Museveni to contest for last term as president of Uganda

 

Uganda President Gen. Yoweri Museveni said on Wednesday he would run for a fifth and last term in an election scheduled for February 2016, saying the task of rebuilding Uganda was far from over.

Museveni took office in January 1986 following a 5 year bush war which began after his predecessor Milton Obote rigged 1980 general elections in Uganda.

 

About 1,000,000 people were killed in the bush war that brought Museveni to power. A senior official in Museveni’s government told our reporter at State House Entebbe that Museveni told them a couple of days back that he is willing to quit power but he fears opposition takeover of government after his walk out of office. The official rubbished claims in the Red Pepper of Tuesday December 11th 2013 that Museveni will retire in 2014. He says Red Pepper wrote concoctions.
