Researchers and academia in Uganda are very much concerned with the emission of green house gasses by locals which have great contributed to environmental degradation in the country.
A lecturer at the school of forestry at Makerere university, Allan Bomuhangi has revealed great fears that with this kind of emissions by factories, homes, cars among others Uganda is likely to face climate change effects which will in the long run cause dangers to people’s health and property.
Revealing some of the research findings carried out in Buikwe, Luwero and Kampala in November this year, statistics show that local in the districts of Buikwe and Luwero are 96% greatly dependant on firewood, charcoal which is an indicator that they are bringing down forests hence causing changes in the country’s climate patterns.
The research in Kampala show a 50% usage of firewood and charcoal since these locals are also using ulternative energies mentioning electricity, solar and bio gas.
The project that seek to help locals in these districts adopt to energy saving techniques run by EMLI and funded by UNDP under the gef small grants programmee, EMLI aims at creating behavioral change among the locals to save the environment from being degraded.
