Uganda Owes Tanzania U.S. $8 Million from War claims

The government of the Republic of Tanzania has insisted on demanding for $8,824,964.56 from Uganda as part of compensation from the 1978/79 Kagera war which former Uganda president Idi Amin Dada instigated.

Shamsi Vuai Nahodha, the Tanzania Defense and National Service Minister discloses that Uganda to date has managed to pay Tanzania only $9,656,065 as an installment out of the total $18,481,029.91.

Uganda paid its first installement during the time Tanzania was under President Benjamin Mkapa. The Tanzanian forces fought Amin’s army between 1978 and 1979, following his invasion of Tanzania’s Kagera region.

Tanzania asked Ugandan government to pay a compensation fee because the invasion was caused by their leader of Uganda.

However there has been no recent payments.Tanzania says it is important for Uganda to settle the compensation balance.
