The chairperson of the Parliamentary Local Governments Accounts committee has proposed that MPs assigned to the such accountability committee should not be allocated any other committee in order to have their full attention to accountability issues.
Giving a report on the progress of the committee work as the year comes to a close, Jack Sabiit who is also the Rukiga County MP says the committee has faced a challenge of low attendance by members who have to attend to other committees.
Sabiit said that low attendance is coupled with inadequate funding to committee which hampers the process of scrutinizing the accountability audit reports and making of reports for the entire parliament to debate.
Submitting, the opposition chief whip Winnie kiiza stressed that there very many activities that all target the lawmakers which may affect the efficiency.
Kizza therefore recommended that the parliamentary calendar need to be synchronized to allow MPs plan for the different activities both within and outside parliament.
