Government has denied reports that 1000 UPDF soldiers have been killed in the ongoing war in South Sudan.

Information and national guidance minister Rose Namayanja Nsereko says that the military personnel in South Sudan is not engaged in fighting but is there to ensure safe evacuation of Ugandans trapped in the war.

She says those who move by bus, are given escorts while those who use air; the military ensures that the airport they use is safe.

Namayanya was responding to reports by two members of parliament Paul Mwiru (FDC) and Kaps Fungaroo (FDC) alleging that their sources had told them that 1000 UPDF soldiers have been killed in South Sudan war by rebels.

When pressed to reveal whether there are some high ranking army officers killed, Mwiru challenged the defense minister to come out and tell parliament which figures he has.

Mwiru said because of the alleged killings, the two MPs had already written to parliament authorities notifying them about an ongoing process by members to collect signatures to recall a crisis sitting of parliament, but Namayanja said government has no intentions of hiding any information even if parliament is recalled or not.
