Butabika hospital say that mentally ill persons escape from the hospital after beating security attention because they do not believe that are sick.
Appearing before the Public Accounts committee chaired by the member of Parliament for Terego county Kassiano Wadri Ezat, the Acting Executive Director of Butabika hospital who is also a senior psychiatrist Dr. David Basangwa said that mentally sick persons at Butabika believe that people who take them to the hospital are their enemy.
Dr. Basangwa said that whoever gets across of any mentally ill person in the hospital uniform should return him or her to the hospital or call the hospital staff to pick them.

He also reported that mental illness is on increase in Uganda saying every day the hospital admits 10 -15 patients.
He said that malaria, Hiv/aids, drug abuse, are among the lead cause of mental illness.
