The high-tech-CT can tell how much of your brain brain is not functioning because of a stroke and how much of it is at risk of getting stroke. A stroke occurs when the flow of oxygen-rich blood to a portion of the brain is blocked.

Some of the symptoms of stroke nclude sudden weakness; paralysis or numbness of the face, arms, or legs; trouble speaking or understanding speech; and trouble seeing.

A stroke can cause lasting brain damage, long-term disability, and sometimes death.
It is estimated that 15 million people worldwide suffer a stroke each year while over three million women and 2.5 million men die as a direct result of stroke.

The head of the radiology department at Nsambya hospital, Dr. Geoffrey Eremu says that treating strokes is a challenge in Uganda because of the available scanners can not critically image the functioning of the brain.

The executive director NsambyaHospital, Dr. Martin Nsubuga  says that the Siemens-manufactured scanner cost over Uganda shillings 1.8 billions.
