Law makers on the public accounts committee have grilled Officials from the
ministry of foreign affairs led by the permanent secretary Ambassador James
Mugume on how they got 3.7 billion shillings from the ministry of finance
without parliament approval.
The group was before the public accounts committee of parliament chaired by
the vice chairperson, Jinja municipality mp Paul Mwiru.
This follows the auditor general’s concern that the ministry received
additional 3.7 billion shillings from the ministry of finance which out
the money being appropriated by parliament.
The mps says that the actual money that parliament appropriated to the
ministry of foreign affairs for Uganda’s contribution to international
organizations was 17 billion shillings, but they got more 3 billion under
unclear circumstances.
A member on this committee Martin Muzaale says they have directed the team
to produce documents that would justify how the ministry got the money and
how it was used.
