Makerere University Sciences lecturers are demanding 342 million shillinbgs as teaching arrears. The university has not paid them since 2012 academic year.

The MakerereUniversity spokesperson for science college, Maria Roselyn says that the university these days is financially constrained.

“Our university can’t raise the whole amount the lecturers demand but the institution has agreed with lecturers to teach the students as the university college processes their salaries and allowances,” she says.

Roselyn says that Makerere University will pay 50 million shillings to the lecturers by next week as part of the the money they are demanding. She says the university can not pay all the money at once. Roselyn says MakerereUniversity is financially constrained but it is committed to paying the money.
