Government has commissioned the construction of 10 million dollar state of art East Africana public health laboratory in Butabika to detect Tuberculosis among the people in five East African countries .
The construction was commissioned by the minister of state for health Dr.Elioda Tumwesigye in Butabika.
The new laboratory is to serve five East African countries in Tuberculosis control in the region in countries include Uganda ,Tanzania, Kenya , Rwanda and Burundi .
The laboratory construction is funded by the world bank and it’s the second in Africa ,south Africa being the first.
The minister of state for health Elioda Tumwesigye said that Uganda is among the 22 countries in the world which is highly burdened by Tuberculosis .
He added that the construction of this laboratory is an an important milostone in the health sector,s efforts in strengthening Tuberculosis diagnosis especially the multi-drug resistant Tuberculosis in the region.
Tumwesigye this laboratory will help Uganda and the region to reduce on the cases of Tuberculosis saying it will give accurate tests for patients to get real treatment.
He said that more laboratory services are needed in the whole country because they help to detect disease out break on time.
He pleaded to World Bank and other development partners not to cut aid for health sectors especially infectious diseases because they have no border.
