President Yoweri Museveni has described the late Canon Freda Kasabiti Rubunda as a brave and strong person even at the time when she was experiencing a lot of pain but while getting treatment at the Hospital.
The President who had visited the Canon when he when to see her in the Hospital before her death said he urged her to take her treatment and not worry.
”She was brave when I went to see her in the Hospital. She had cancer, she refused treatment and she accepted to die because she did not want to leave debts for the family. I quarreled with her for refusing treatment and I told her not to interfere with the work of God,” he said.
The President was speaking today at the funeral service organized for late Freda Kasabiti Rubunda at All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero. Kasabiti who was married to Rev. Canon Dr. Sam Rubunda the Presidential advisor on Religious Affairs. She died on tuesday at Kesh Clinic at the age of 72 years. The service was led by Bishop Aliphaz Maali.
President Museveni told mourners that when people live longer they are useful like his late father Muze Kaguta who helped him a lot to write the Runyankole dictionary and learn some of the words in Runyankole which meanings he did not know.
He said his late father one time called for him to come to see him and the only thing he asked of him was for a drug that he could take to die but he told him not to interfere with the work of God. He said that his father was going to die with a lot of words in Runyankole if he died at the age of 70 years but it was good that he died at the age of 97 years.
The President said while he did not closely interact with the late Freda Rubunda so much, he worked with one of her children Alison Byamukama who helped him during the by-elections in Buhweju to solve a confusion among the NRM candidates by stepping down. He said the late came from a hard working and famous family who were beautiful. He said their father lived for a long time and he was famous with many children.
The First Lady Janet Museveni on her part said they came to pay their last respect to the late for the people to know that they are also touched by the death of Kasabiti. She thanked God for allowing her to do her work of raising children up to the age she has left them. She said old people are dying and they will be no people to consult or refer to solve some issues and to forgive.
