Mps on the Information, communication and Telecommunication committee have threatened not to approve the Uganda communications commission (UCC) budget in the next financial year.
Mps on the ICT committee said that if the ministry of ICT does not pressurize the cabinet to approve the commission’s board they will not give the commission money for running it in the next financial year.
Mps who include Andrew Allen , Bernard Atiku , Paula Turyahikayo said that mps have asked for the commission’s board but in vain.
Mps said that the commission board should be approved by cabinet to settle unresolved cases in ICT industry .
Mps also appealed to the ministry of ICT to work out an ICT policy to deal with the emerging issues due to rapid changes in technology which characterized by the advent of the internet.
However , the minister of state for ICT Nyombi Thembo said that mps concern on ICT policy and the commission’s board will be looked into urgently so as find a solution to the matter and added that the names of persons to be on board of UCC are before cabinet waiting approval.
In related development government has approved beneficiaries for computer laboratory programme.
The minister of ICT Nyombi Thembo said that 122 schools through the public private partnership will benefit in the new computer laboratory programme and he added that the main beneficiaries will come from schools of Bugiri ,soroti and Ntungamo districts.
He also said that the ministry of ICT after pilot study for the computer laboratories in schools will hand over the project to the ministry of Education for further implementation.
