Legislators on the presidential affairs committee of parliament have grilled KCCA officials led by former Kampala minister Muluri Mukasa over the use of public funds.
The officials had appeared before the committee to give their accountability on the use of over 199 billion shillings which was allocated to the authority during the financial 2013/2014.
Mps Latif ssebagala kawempe north , Peter Ogwang Northern youth mp, Ababiku jesica Adjumani woman mp and Col Fred mwesigye the chairperson of this committee among others asked the officials to account for the funds they were given saying that the budget for KCCA had been doubled from what previous KCC used to get.
Kawempe North mp Latif ssebagala said the funds are being misused because; KCCA has failed to constitute the public accounts committee where they are supposed to present accountability.
In response minister Muluri Mukasa told mps that the challenges in leadership of authority has delayed the establishment the public accounts committee , but mp ssebagala took him on to explain what the KCCA ACT say on the establishment of PAC.
The law requires the lord mayor to appoint the committee which is then approved by the council, but the committee has never been approved although the members were appointed
The chairperson col Fred mwesigye asked KCCA officials to have a human face when dealing with the traders because the law enforcement officers are manhandling them.
