History of hepatitis E

 

Hepatitis E is a liver viral disease caused by the hepatitis E virus, a non-enveloped virus transmitted through drinking contaminated water. This is according to the director general of health services, Dr. Diana Aceng.

The infection resolves within 4, 5 to 6 weeks. Hepatitis E occasionally develops into acute liver failure, which sometimes leads to death.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), across the globally, there are approximately 20 million incidents of hepatitis E infections and 57,000 related deaths every year,.

Hepatitis E is found in faeces of infected persons and it is spread by consuming drinks or foods that have been contaminated with feaces. The disease is commonly seen in African communities that don’t have clean water.
