state house stops students sponsorship

State house has said that it has stopped taking on any new students to study under the state house scholarship scheme.
State house comptroller Lucy Nakyobe informed the parliamentary committee on presidential affairs chaired by COL.Fred Mwesigye that this scheme has now been handed over to the education and sports ministry following a recommendation by the parliamentary committee on education.
She says this committee recommended that since the government recently brought a Students’ Loan Scheme, there was no need for state house to continue running a parallel scheme.
Nakyobe however, clarified that those students who had already been taken on will continue but there is no further enrollment under this scheme.

She added that government is now implementing the education committee recommended that students should not be taken to private schools yet there are government schools under UPE and USE, and therefore state house has already asked those students who are non-candidates to start looking for government schools.
