Government has earmarked 20 billion shillings for restocking programme
in 32 districts in Northern Uganda .
The restocking programme will procure 4600 animals and are expected to
be distributed by the end of this month.
This was revealed by the permanent secretary in the office of the
prime ministers’ office Guwatudde Musoke while appearing before the
presidential committee chaired by Col. Fred Mwesigye.
She said that the project was approved on guidance of President Yoweri Museveni.
She said that the restocking of northern Uganda with animals will
improve the economic wellbeing of household within the four sub
regions which include west Nile, Acholi,lango and Teso.
She said that the project will rejuvenate the depleted number of animals.
Eighteen firms awarded contracts to supply the animals to benefitting
farmers who will be identified by district leadership with help of
veterinary officers.
Mps Odonga otto and Col. Mwesigye asked the office of the prime
minister and the Agriculture ministry to put breeding and seed centres
in different areas to enable farmers improve on the quality of their
animals and plants.
