World Health Organisation report on tobbaco smoking in Uganda

The World Health Organisation reports on shisha smoking indicates that on average 37 people in Uganda die daily due to tobacco or shisha related illness such as lung cancer, cancer of the throat and cancer of the mouth etc.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics also concur with the World Health Organisation that the number of young men who smoke in Uganda has increased from 12 in every 100 (2001 figure) to 19 in every 100 (2011) young men.

The world health organisation further indicates that the number of young female smokers increased from 11 to 15 in every 100 female youth since 2011 todate. WHO experts attribute these increases to the belief among some youth that smoking is good for life; smoking is a sign of equality and on the aggressive marketing conducted by tobacco companies.
