Teachers blames ministry of education over salary

Teachers under the Uganda National Teachers union (UNATU)have attacked the permanent secretary in the ministry of Education and sports Dr. Nasali Lukwago for lying to the parliamentary committee on public service and public service that she was never told about nonpayment of teachers .
This came after the permanent secretary recently appeared before the committee and told MPS that she was never informed by anyone that there were some teachers whose names deleted from payroll and others teaching.
While appearing before the committee the UNATU officials led by the union president Margaret Rwabushaija and the secretary General James Turyahayo said that they had a meeting with Dr.Nasali Lukwako and informed her of non payment of teachers contrary to Nasali’s earlier report to mps.

The secretary General of UNATU also said that the matter of ending ghost teachers on payroll should handled by issuing pay slips to teachers and sending payrolls to each school so as teachers identify names of ghost teachers on payroll.
He also reported to mps harassment of kamapala head teachers who try to stop the sale of their land to individuals.
He also told mps there is overpayment of some teachers due to poor system in payment of teachers and the extra pay is not refund.
He accused the ministry of public service of deducting some money from teachers salary as contribution to the Uganda National Teachers union and does not remit the money to the union for the last eight months.
He said that the ministry owes UNATU 144.4 million shillings
