Domestic arrears have risen to 1.1 trillion shillings due to financial indispline in government departments and agencies.
This was revealed by the Auditor General John Muwanga while presenting to the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga Audit findings year end 30th June 2013.
He said that in 2012 domestic arrears were at 763 billion shillings but now has reached 1.1 trillion shillings.
He said that the continued escalation of domestic arrears in a short term is worrying and will cause financial crisis.
He also warns of abuse of allowances by public service ministry where new allowances are created without a basis.
He also said that a solution should be found for the increasing court awards and compensation.
He said that court awards and compensation last year was at 82 billion shillings but now has reached 164 billion shillings .
The speaker of parliament Rebecca kadaga while receiving the Auditor General’s report worried for the increasing court awards and compensation yet there is selectivity for the beneficiaries
The chairperson of the public Accounts committee Alice Alaso promised to work hard towards reduction of the committee’s backlog to beat the constitutional dead line regarding the Audit reports .
