Members of parliament hailing from the Greater North have expressed dissatisfaction over the inadequacies in the proposed Rangelands management and Pastoralism policy.
The Greater North Parliamentary Forum today started a process of petitioning Parliament over the numerous issues left out in the upcoming Rangelands management and Pastoralism Policy yet they directly affect pastoralists in these areas.
Member of the Greater North Parliamentary Forum Sam Agatre Okuonzi says given the increasing pressure on the rangeland there pertinent concerns ranging from administration of access and control of the natural resources to the animal health services.
However Okuonzi adds that unfortunately the forum has fronted the concerns to government which has paid a deaf hear.
Meanwhile Ambrose Toolit a consultant hired by the forum that visited the Karamoja noted that policy should put into consideration of land auditing to allow people engage in different occupations without affecting other activities. Toolit says earmarking land for mining, agriculture and wildlife activities sometimes affect the pastoral activities.
