Uganda builds centre to trap lightening

In Africa and other low development parts of the world people think and believe that lightning is the work of the gods. But all this is a fallacy according to a new centre that has been set up in Uganda to mitigate the destruction caused by lightning strikes, as well as preventing its calamity on people.

The African Centre for Lightning and Electromagnetics (ACLE) was opened in Entebbe by Uganda government with Prof Waswa Balunywa, being its chairman Board of Directors.

The initiative of establishing ACLE was in reaction to the absence of experts on lightning in Uganda. In Uganda whenever lightning struck, everyone would become an expert on how to prevent the destruction of lightening. Uganda did not have people creating awareness from a scholarly and authoritative point of view. The government of Uganda has sponsored ACLE to invest in extensive research on the subject, understanding the problem and embarking on a vigorous country wide sensitisation about it.
