NRM candidate wins Bubulo west MP elections

The NRM parliamentary flag bearer Rose Mutonyi has won Thursday’s parliamentary by-elections in Bubulo west. He defeated DP’s candidate Paul Butira, FDC’s Ahamadah Wakhweya and independents Emma Muyikirwa and Joseph Musolo.

But there was a low turnout of voters. There was also a heavy police deployment in the constituency.

The seat fell vacant after the former MP, Tony Nsubuga Kipoi, was kicked out of Parliament after missing 21 consecutive sittings. He was the second MP to lose a seat for missing sittings after Gen. David Sejusa.

Bubulo West has 135 polling stations with over 60,000 voters. At some poling stations like Manafwa Town Council, the presiding officer went and collected people nearby to witness the opening of the ballot boxes. The electoral commission chairman, Badru Kiggundu says the election exercise was so peaceful.
