No registration of ugandans abroad fot national identity cards

Government confirms that there is no special consideration for Ugandans leaving out the Country to register for National identity cards because the current law does not accommodate them.

While appearing before the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, the Secretary Electoral Commission Mr. Sam Rwakoojo said Ugandans abroad will have to come back and take part in the ongoing exercise in order for them to participate in the fourth coming general elections 2016.

He said it’s very hard to identify someone who is not in the Country because the law commands that for one to be legitimately registered him/her must present birth certificates or is identified by the locals which he said it’s hard with Ugandans leaving abroad.

The mass registration of Ugandans for the issuance of national identity cards kicked off last week amid copious irregularities and complaints among the general public citing missing materials, late arrival of garments among others which has disrupted the entire exercise.
