NRM spends 1.4 billions in Luweero elections

 

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government has reportedly spent 1.8 billion Uganda shillings in facilitating by-election campaigns in Luweero woman MP race.

According to sources at NRM headquarters in Kampala, the money was spent in deploying security, facititating the movements of NRM candidate in the race, Rebecca Nalwanga, meeting transport costs of president Museveni and his security personel while soliciting votes for the party candidate and buying freebies for the voters.

The seat fell vacant after the court of appeal nullified the election victory of MP Brenda Nabukenya on grounds that the electoral commission did not follow election guidelines and regulations.

The government spent 1.8 billion shillings yet the people in BUGIRI are demanding only 30 million shillings to rehabilitate BUGIRI hospital. Recently a team of journalists visited Bugiri hospital and it was shocked to find that mothers and babies were dying in child labour because women are giving birth on the floor. The toilets were in poor state with no following water. The Nurses and doctors were not yet paid their salaries for 5 months…
