Catholics deploy Uganda police at Basilica

A combination of both police and military police has been deployed in Kampala ahead of this year’s martyr’s day cerebrations. Uganda and the rest of the world will mark the martyrs’ day on June 3rd, 2014.

Christians in Uganda on June 3rd every year remember the day Kabaka Mwanga of Buganda Kingdom put to death Anglican and Catholic converts (in current Uganda called Martyrs) in 1886.

The security measures at the Basilica-Uganda have been toughened. No one access the Shrines, beneath which Charles Lwanga, one of the 22 martyrs or its holy grounds, without going through security checks.

There are security men at the holy grounds’ main gate that will subject every prigrim to thorough security checks.
