A across section of Members of parliament have expressed their expectations for tomorrow’s National Budget speech with some indicating interest in reduction of taxes on basic essential products for the ordinary citizen.
Bukoto Central MP Florence Namayanja says it would be surprising to see a reduction of taxes levied on water, fuel and other essential products yet it would be the ideal expectation in tomorrow’s Budget speech.
Namayanja speculates that instead taxes on some these essential items will be increased as government tries to bridge the gaps created by the donor aid cuts experienced in the recent past.
Mityana District Woman MP Sylvia Namabidde expects more funds to be allocated towards the education and health sectors to improve teachers and health workers salaries. Namabidde says that the increased funding to these sectors would ensure general improvement in delivery of social services sectors.
Meanwhile Busongora South MP Boaz Kafunda wants to see a big portion of the National budget going to the Infrastructure development to ensure that the rural people have roads and functional railway system to support their enterprises. He says that there peace and stability in the country so there is no need for huge expenditure on Defense but rather on infrastructure that will drive the economy.
