Dr Mikhail Nikitin, the deputy head of mission at the Russian embassy has condemned the escalation of tension in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Dr. Nikitin condemns the unlawful activity of armed groups like the FDLR insisting that the FDLR should lay down their arms voluntarily or else be disarmed by force by the Russian forces. Russia is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Counci.

The FDLR is an acronym for the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda. Majority of the FDLR fighters are elements responsible for the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi community in Rwanda.
